Abstract

155,689. Satchwell, L. Oct. 21, 1919. Resistances, grid. Thin stamped strips are bent, shaped, or connected to form a zigzag grid, and assembled into a block with interposed insulating-spacers, which extend along the length of the strip, but are of less width, so that the strip is to a large extent exposed to the air. In one arrangement, Fig. 2, the strip 3, which may be perforated or slotted along the centre, as shown in Fig. 5, to confine the current to the edges, is bent into loops, which are assembled with the spacers 5 on insulated bolts 6 having spring washers 7. Transverse notches 2 may be provided to facilitate bending. Connexion is made by means of narrow copper strips 8. In another arrangement, Fig. 6, a number of stampings 10 are connected in series by washers 14, the spacers 13 being made shorter than the stampings. In another arrangement, Fig. 7. a number of zigzag strips 15 are built upon insulated steel plates 16, adjacent-strips being spaced by U-shaped insulating-washers 18.
