Abstract

Jackets and covers.-In pneumatic tyre comprising an air-tube 1 and an outer cover formed in sections 3, the air-tube is wrapped in a continuous intermediate sleeve 2 having ribs 4 against which the tread portions of the cover sections abut, the sleeve being so constructed that the tread portion is inextensible and the side walls extensible. The overlapping marginal portions 5, 6 may also be rendered inextensible by means of embedded wires, cords, or strips such as 11, Fig. 6. The tread portion may have embedded wires or cords 7 or open-mesh fabric formed of wires or textile material. The beaded edges of adjacent cover sections may have pin-and-socket connexions; or channel pieces 15, Fig. 7, may be fitted to the beads at one end of each section to engage reduced bead-portions 16 on the next section.
