Jackets and covers; tread bands.-A tyre cover is formed by a series of overlapping flexible metal strips 1 connected by plates 8 which are riveted to the strips and have interengaging tongues 9 and slots 10. The tread may be constituted by ribbed plates 6, Figs. 2 and 4, in which case springs 13 are fitted between the plates 8 and strips 1; or by a rubber band 15, Fig. 6, having projections 18 passing through slots in the plates 8 and bearing on the strips. The plates 8 are formed with ribs or beaded edges 12 to position the tread element. To prevent chafing, the airtube 17 may be encased in a canvas liner 21.
