Spring wheels with continuous outer rigid ring and pneumatic cushions.-The outer tread band or hoop 8 surrounding a pneumatic cushion is formed of sheet metal curved transversely to fit the outer part of the pneumatic cushion, and has radially extending flanges 9 at the sides forming a channel for the reception of the tread members 10. In the construction described, the tread members, which are formed of rubber or other suitable material, and may be reinforced with canvas at the base and bead portions, are provided with interlocking tongues and projections 11, 12, and are introduced into the band 8 through gaps provided in the flanges 9 or in the overhanging edges 19 thereof, the gaps being subsequently closed by plates 13. Creeping of the tread may be prevented by wires 14 passed through one or more sections and secured to the side flanges, or transverse plates may be provided on the ends of the closing-plates 13. The band 8 may be formed in two or more parts hinged together. The pneumatic cushion comprises an air tube 5 and a cover 15 with overlapping edges 7 and reinforced at the sides either by thickening, or by bands of metal or fabric or both either secured to the cover or held in position between the cover and the rim and band 8. To prevent accidental displacement of the band, rings or lugs 16 may be attached thereto and overlap the rim.
