Jackets and covers; tyre attachments to rims. -A tyre cover comprises convolute layers of material formed of spaced bead elements A, Fig. 4, helically wrapped with textile strands, cords or threads 10, and one or more layers of rubber or rubberized material 9, 11. In a modified construction, the strands 10 may be attached to a rubber strip. Specification 197,703 is referred to as disclosing a machine for the production of the tyre. Layers C, Fig. 5, are applied to a rotating core D and pressed into shape by a number of rollers such as 13 the peripheries of which conform to the contour of the cover. A strip e may be applied to the core in the position shown and turned to enclose the beads. A straight-sided bead may be formed in similar manner by suitably shaped rollers. In the form shown in Fig. 8, filling material such as textile or metallic strips f are applied, and strips g are used on each side of each bead and the whole is consolidated by rollers 15. The ridge 15<a> formed by the roller 15 is pressed flat in the vulcanizing mould. In the form shown in Fig. 10, rubber strips F<1> are applied directly over the beads 12<a1> and the combined cord and rubber material 10, 9 is applied and the beads shaped as described above. The strips F<1> may be used in place of the beads 12<a1>. The bead elements A, Fig. 14, may be helically disposed and connected by cramps G, and are of wire, cable, or compressible material.
