Abstract

815,055. Pneumatic tyres. PIRELLI S.p.A. March 15, 1956 [March 16, 1955], No. 8176/56. Class 144 (2). In a pneumatic tyre comprising a circumferentially flexible but inextensible breaker consisting of rubberized tension resistant lowstretch cord or cords wound helically or spirally with the convolutions extending circumferentially of the breaker, circumferential stretch of the breaker during shaping and moulding of the tyre is provided for by the cord or cords having an undulating, e.g. sinuous form, Fig. 2, with the undulations lying in planes tangential to the convolutions, said undulations being completely or partially straightened out during shaping of the tyre. The breaker may comprise either a single full width ring, or a number of axially spaced part-width rings, each ring being formed by either one or more concentric layers each comprising a helical winding of cord or cord ribbon, or a plurality of spirally wound convolutions of full width cord fabric. The undulations in the cord are parallel in the adjacent cords in each layer, Fig. 2, and in a plural layer structure of even number, adjacent layers are circumferentially relatively offset by a distance of one half the pitch of the undulations, Fig. 6. The cord used may be single- or multi-filaments of natural or synthetic textile or metallic material rubberized with natural or synthetic rubber or like plastic.
