Abstract

155,154. Tyer & Co., and Punter, J. W. Feb. 27, 1920. Lamp-failure alarms and warning-devices. - The position of an outdoor railway signal and the failure of the signal lamp are indicated by the colour of a light and the illumination of a lamp in the indicator. Fig. 1 shows an arrangement of apparatus in which reversed currents are transmitted by a reversing-switch A on the outdoor signal over a contact E, which is closed by the heat of the signal lamp, to a polarized relay F, the armature of which closes the circuit to one or other of coloured lamps 18, 24. The position of the signal arm is shown by the indicator D. In one modification, a polarized armature carrying coloured glasses, moves one or other glass in front of a lamp, the circuit to which is closed when the armature is in either extreme position. In a further modification, the lamp is put in circuit by a relay which is inserted in series with the polarized electro-magnet by a hand-operated two-way switch so as to be operative only when the signal lamp is in use.
