Abstract
491,891. Road - traffic signals on vehicles ; operating devices for Bowden and like transmissions. WALKER, K. March 12, 1937, Nos. 7318 and 14141. [Class 118 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXI] A control unit for operating direction indicators through Bowden wires or like transmission comprises means for moving bars connected with the wires in horizontal directions in the same plane, the coupling of the control handle with one wire automatically moving the connecting units of the other wire out of the path of the control handle. To operate the left-hand indicator the handle 20 is swung to the left about pivot 21. The selector 17 moves to the right and is swung anticlockwise by contact between surfaces 23, 26 so that slot 28 engages pin 7 of bar 5. The selector 17, in moving anticlockwise, moves clear of pin 8 of bar 6 so that the right-hand indicator is not moved. Continued movement of the handle 20 to the left moves the bar 5 to the right and the wire 9 is moved to operate the direction indicator. At the same time conducting segment 32 on handle 20 engages contact 30 and completes a circuit for lighting the left-hand pilot lamp 38 visible through opening 42. When the handle is restored to its central position the bar 5 is forced to the left by engagement between slot 28 and pin 7 and is held in neutral position by spring 15. To operate the right-hand signal the handle is moved to the right and bar 6 is moved in a manner similar to that described above. The segment 32 contacting with contacts 30 and 31 also may cause lamps in the signal arms to be lit. The tell-tale lamps 38, 39 are held in position by covers 40, 41, and may be used as spares for the lamps in the indicators.
