Abstract

154,417. Ackroyd, F. Oct. 28, 1919. Spray carburettors.-Relates to carburettors in which a number of wicks or jets are arranged to be brought into operation in succession. In the apparatus shown, two or more wick feeds C<0> extend from the fuel chamber C to the carburettor throughway A<3>, ending in slots such as C<6> cut in the tongue C<3>, this tongue being arranged to fit in a slot B<4> in a vertically movable throttle valve B. The slots C<4>, C<5>, C<6>, of different lengths, extend from the top of the tongue downwards, and are arranged to have the wicks at such heights above the normal fuel level that they become operative at various positions of the throttle valve. A pilot jet C<9> is also preferably fitted either in the tongue or adjacent to it on the inlet side for slow running purposes when the wicks are not in action, and controlled by a needle valve C<10>. In some cases the wicks C<0> are omitted and the holes act as jets.
