Sliding valves; wedging or jamming. - A gate valve for high-pressure gas or liquid plants comprises a pair of valve plates c which are forced apart against their seats in the closed position by a rotary movement of the lifting- spindle d, which is formed with a cam e at the lower end. The plates can also be forced apart to hold the valve in any desired open position. A single valve plate c only may be used.
