Abstract

Floors of reinforced-concrete girders side by side; reinforced-concrete girders and beams.-A floor or platform is formed of pre-cast beams laid side by side but of a length shorter than the floor span, alternate beams resting at one end on opposite abutments as shown, Fig. 7, and each beam being partly supported on the preceding one by means of a rabbeted edge e, Fig. 4, engaging a shoulder d. The beams are preferably tapered and right and left-handed, but may be parallel. The gaps are filled in with concrete cast in situ, or with pre-cast blocks having holes for an extension of the reinforcement. When concrete is cast in the gaps, removable cores m, n, Fig. 8, are used. The beam reinforcement j projects for the attachment of the extension k. The shoulders d are strengthened at the broad ends of the beams by ribs g, and the beams are spaced apart by projections f to allow for grouting.
