Spring-actuated lowering-apparatus.-In a device for raising automatically boat-lowering gear clear of the boat's crew upon the operation of the detaching-gear, a wire rope k wound upon the drum c of a winch is connected to a frame secured to the falls adjacent to the detaching-gear. The drum shaft c<2> is screw-threaded, and a disk c<4> mounted thereon rotates with the drum but is free to move axially relatively thereto. During the latter part of the lowering operation, this disk c<4> engages by means of dogs with a second disl; c<5> loose on the shaft c<3> but connected by a spring c<6> with a fixed part of the winch. The spring c<6> is thus wound and, when the boat detaching-gear is operated, rotates the winch drum in the reverse direction.
