Abstract
735,413. Davits, boat lowering gear. HANSEN, K. E. T. H. Oct. 5, 1953 [Oct. 10, 1952], No. 27326/53. Class 115. In a davit comprising a suspension member b from which a boat m may be hung and a fallf connected to the suspension member and adapted to be connected to a winch, means are provided for effecting a pull on the fall so as to shorten its effective length when the suspension member is unloaded. The davit has arms e, one end being pivoted on a shaft k and the other carrying a lever d with a fast tackle block c. Said means comprises a winding drum h (Fig. 2) mounted coaxially with the block c. The fall f is led through the block c, around a tackle block a which carries the suspension member b, and up to the winding drum to which it is fastened. When the boat m is lowered the drum h is turned by the fall f being wholly or partly unwound therefrom, thus tightening a spiral spring g in the drum. When the load on the member b is released the spring g will cause the drum h to turn in the opposite direction thereby rewinding part of the fall f and raising the member b from Pos. I (Fig. 1) to Pos. II, where it will be above the heads of persons standing in the boat.
