Abstract

149,279. Walther, F. July 14, 1920. Breech actions, sliding breech-block; trigger guards.-The hammer pivot of automatic pistols is adapted to form a safety lock for the sear. In the construction shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the pivot 8 of the hammer 1 is adapted to be rotated by a lever 5, and is formed with a flat part 11. The pivot 8 passes through an aperture 9, 10 in a plate 7 turning with the sear, the aperture comprising a round part 9 and a narrower part 10. When the pivot 8 is in the position shown in Fig. 2, the sear is free to move, but when the pivot is turned to the position shown in Fig. 3, the sear is locked with the hammer cocked. The sear can be locked only when the hammer is cocked, owing to the fact that the hammer is formed with a cam-surface which presses the sear and plate 7 forwards when the hammer is down, the pivot 8 then being in the narrow part 10 of the opening and prevented from rotation. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also constructions of the breech-block, slide, and trigger-guard. The breech-block 31, Figs. 4 and 5 (Cancelled), fits in a longitudinal groove in the breech-slide 21, and is held from longitudinal movement by a vertical stud 32. The breech-block is locked in position by the cartridge extractor 38, which forms a spring catch entering a lateral recess 37 in the breech-slide. The rear end 41, Fig. 6 (Cancelled), of the extractor projects into a groove 42 in the firing-pin 34 and limits its movement. The trigger-guard 29, Fig. 7 (Cancelled), is formed with a projection 51, which forms a stop to limit the rearward movement of the breech-slide 21. The trigger-guard is secured at the front by a spring bolt 48, and at the rear is pivoted on a stud 44, the pivot hole 45 terminating in a slot 46 which allows removal of the guard. The stop 51 is formed with a projecting ledge 57, which engages over the part 52 of the breech-slide for the purpose of preventing the blow of the breech-slide on the stop from disengaging the spring bolt 48. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
