485,514. Automatic firearms. WALTHER, E., and WALTHER, G., (trading as WALTHER WAFFENFABRIK, C.). April 8, 1937, No. 9976. Convention date, April 9, 1936. [Class 119] The breech - block of a pistol or other automatic firearm is providod with a comparatively wide slot through which the lock mechanism, such as the striker bolt, extractor, signal bolt, &c. can be inserted, this slot being covered by a plate so that the lock mechanism is protected from access of dirt &c., and can be readily removed or inserted. The breechblock 2, Fig. 1, has a cavity closed at its lower side by a wall 20, this cavity housing the striker-pin 4, a signal bolt 6 indicating when a cartridge is in the breech, and an ejector 8, Fig. 3. The backsight 7, Fig. 4, seats on the breech-block 2 and has lugs 16 guided in the slot 3 at the upper side of the breech-block, the sight having a recess to accommodate the signal bolt 6 and a transverse slot which receives a tongue 15 at the end of the cover-plate 9, Fig. 1, the backsight being locked thereby. The cover-plate has a positioning lug 10 and a hook 12 which engages under side-wall projections 13 in the cavity and thus secures the cover-plate to the breech-block. According to a modification, the forward positioning lug 10, Fig. 5, on the cover-plate is provided with a hook 18 functioning as an extractor.
