Controlling handles or levers associated with hand steering-devices; controlling different functions by same handle or lever.-Comprises epicyclic variable-speed gearing in which the driving- shaft a drives the driven shaft a', either directly through a friction clutch c, or at various speeds through separate epicyclic trains controlled by cams on inter-geared shafts j, the clutch and the cam-shafts being controlled by a single hand-lever or by a hand-wheel fixed to a tube concentric with the steering column. As the shafts are rotated the brakes i are applied and released in succession, each brake controlling one gear train. The clutch c is also controlled by the rotation of the shafts j, a cam-groove n<1> being engaged by a lever y adapted to operate the clutch lever y<3> or to allow the springs z<2> to expand and release the clutch.
