Starting.-In a starting-device in which the admission of compressed air to a starting-valve d<1> in the cylinder head brings into action gear H, K controlling the valve, the compressed air is admitted through a conduit d<3> in the valve stem to a closed space above a piston C resting on the arm h<1> of the valve lever. Normally, the valve lever is maintained in the position shown by a spring E, but when compressed air is admitted above the piston C, the pressure causes the valve lever to co-act with a cam recess k' to work the valve.
