Abstract

Combinations of interdependent v a l v e s; safety-valves.-A valve for admitting to t h e cylinder of an internalcombustion engine compressed air for starting is so constructed as to open automatically if the pressure in the cylinder exceeds a certain amount. T h e compressed air is admitted to the underside of a piston d and, overcoming the action of the spring e, closes the ports i by the sleeve g and is admitted through ports h to the interior of the valve c and thence to the cylinder by the lifting of the valve. A light spring m keeps the valve in its seat until the sleeve g abuts against the cap n on the valve stem. If the pressure in the cylinder rises too high. the valve opens against the pressure of the spring c, and the excess of gas is discharged through the ports i to a space which does not communicate with the compressed-air channel.
