Abstract

146,783. Andreau, J. E. Dec. 16, 1919. Addition to 133,286. Variable-speed epicyclic gearing described in the parent Specification as modified by the first addition and comprising eccentric masses such as g<1>, g<2>, Fig. 11, upon planet spindles such as e', e<2> is further modified by the use of double-acting " selectors " or pairs of ratchet clutches, so as to utilize reverse as well as forward impulses. Thus a driven shaft f, Fig. 3, carrying a fly-wheel p picks up forward impulses through a ratchet clutch q directly, and reverse impulses through a clutch i and a reversing train of bevel-gearing r, s. The eccentric masses may be arranged in groups in different phases, each group in same phase having a separate pair of " selectors," as shown in Fig. 11. Thus a shaft f<1> drives a shaft f through a clutch q<1>, or through clutch i' and reversing train r<1>, s, or a shaft f<2> in different phase may drive forward through clutch i<2> and train w, or through clutch q<2> and reversing-train r<2>, s. Planet pinions c<1>, c<2> of different sizes may be used, and the masses g may be movable in camslots t, Fig. 5, or in spring arms v, Fig. 7.
