Abstract

1462786 Pneumatic conveyers J HUNTER 14 Aug 1974 [15 May 1973] 23205/73 Heading B8A Material to be conveyed is drained, conditioned to make it pneumatically handleable and fed via a pneumatic flap valve into a hopper which feeds the material into an airstream leading to an acceptor unit where the material and air are separated. The conveying apparatus operates cyclically under pneumatic control and can form the basis of modular conveying apparatus, Fig. 1 shows an embodiment in which coal is conveyed from a pick up area, dried and cleaned of magnetic debris by electromagnets, and delivered to a hopper 20 via a pneumatic flap valve 38. It is then fed by feeder 16 into a pneumatic airstream operating along pipe-line 34, generated by compressor/face 12 and taking the coal to a booster section 29 which comprises a pneumatic flap valve, hopper, feeder and pneumatic airstream similar to those at the conveyer section 30. As many booster sections as necessary may be inserted in the conveying line to transport the coal to the storage area 28. The modular apparatus may also be used to supply a plurality of boilers as required and to convey ash from boilers, under pneumatic control.
