[Also in Division F4] Plant for automatically feeding solid fuel to boilers A, B, C and for disposing of the ash produced comprises a fuel storage silo 12, a pneumatic pipe-line 10 for conveying fuel from the silo to fuel feed hoppers Al, B1, C1 and an ash receiving pit 15 for each boiler, from which the ash is pneumatically conveyed to a sealed ash separator 19. Upper and lower level limit switches in the hoppers control via pneumatic valves the delivery of fuel to the hoppers. Air from electric fans 13 passes to a rotary valve housing 111 into which fuel from the silo 12 is fed under the control of a rotary valve 121 operated on a time cycle or by remote control. Fluidized fuel in the base of the silo 12 is supplied to the hoppers when the rotary valve 11 in housing 111 is opened. Each ash receiving pit 15 comprises two compartments, whereupon when one is filled, a level switch is operated to cause that compartment to discharge and the other compartment to receive ash. The discharged ash passes through crushers to a rotary valve which is operated at a fixed time interval after the level switch operation, to feed the ash into the pneumatic pipe-line leading to the separator 19. Valves 17 are opened to permit air flow in the last said pipe-line, after said time interval. Ash is fed from the separator 19 to a receiver 20 via a valve 21 which is opened upon a predetermined weight of ashy settling thereon. The ash pits 15 may be cooled by passing air therearound.
