Abstract
1,004,823. Discharge of a hopper by fluidization. BUHLER GEB. April 2, 1962 [April 2, 1961], No. 1113/65. Divided out of 999,106. Heading B8A. Material in hopper 10 is fluidized to cause it to fall into channel 16 whence it is discharged down inclined porous plates 30 by fluidized air introduced at 31; and the level of material in the channel 16 is controlled by diaphragm 34 so that when the level in the channel rises above a predetermined limit the switch 35 is operated and the fluidizing air to hopper 10 is cut off. Thus the bottom of hopper 10 is formed by plates 18 and air is introduced thereunder past valves 25 through pipes 48 into chambers divided by partitions 22 which effectively divide the plates 18 into separate fields positioned along the length of the hopper 10. Pipes 48 supply one set of fields and pipes 49 adjustable relative thereto supply the other set of fields. These fields exist on both sides of channel 16 as shown. Additionally a plurality of plates 44 is provided which are supplied by air through pipes 50 also controlled by the valves 25. In this way any part of the length of the hopper may be fluidized, the air thereto being cut off by the operation of diaphragm 34 if the height of material in channel 16 should be excessive to thereby temporarily cut off the flow of material into channel 16 from hopper 10.
