Abstract

1371655 Unloading ships; pneumatic conveyers SCHWEIZERISCHE ALUMINIUM AG 30 Nov 1971 [2 Dec 1970] 55624/71 Headings B8E and B8A An elevating and conveying system for unloding granular material 7 from the hold 5 of a vessel 3 comprises a vertical telescopic suction pipe 41 communicating through an expansion chamber 39 with an inclined telescopic transport pipe 31 through which the material is conveyed to an airlock silo. 23 for discharge from the system. Material from the chamber 39 is assisted in its passage along the pipe 31 by the air being sucked from the pipe 41 to a blower 17 and by fluidising air being supplied from a fan 35 to an air permeable base of the pipe 31. The material is supplied to the silo 23 from a separator 20 fed by the pipe 31, a minimum height of material being maintained in the silo to provide a seal. The transport pipe 31 is mounted on a luffable and slewable jib 11 and endless conveyers 45 feed material to the suction nozzle 46 of the pipe 41. In another embodiment, a vibrating, belt or chain conveyer replaces the fluidizing bed in the transport pipe.
