Abstract
637,472. Pneumatic conveyers. FULLER CO. Sept. 4, 1947, Nos. 24455 and 24456. Convention dates, Oct. 17, 1946. [Class 78 (i)] A method of conveying powder materials through an open pipe 15 (Fig. 1) from a bin 12 which is at atmospheric pressure comprises introducing inert gas (e.g. at 14) into the bin to fluidise the material and also introducing it in larger volume into the material (e.g. at 18) within the lower end 17 of the pipe to cause the material to be discharged up the pipe. Fig. 1. Material introduced through pipe 22 is fluidised by air introduced through permeable plates 13 from inlet 14 and is raised by a jet of air from pipe 18 blown into the pipe 15, the material collecting finally in container 16. Outlets 19, 20 lead to the atmosphere. Fig. 2. Material fed into chamber 23 at 27 from hopper 26 is fluidised by air introduced at 25 through porous material 24 and is raised up pipe 29 by air in greater volume introduced from pipe 31. The material passes to chamber 32 where air is injected at 36 to raise the material to chamber 34. Chambers 23 and 34 are maintained at atmospheric pressure by vents 28, 38 and pipe 37 ensures that chamber 32 is also at atmospheric pressure. Fig. 3. Material introduced at 52 into chamber 39 is fluidised by air passing up from pipe 49 up through porous plate 43 and is elevated up pipe 46 by air in greater volume introduced from pipe 44 through pipe 48, the pipes 44 and 49 having a common source 51. Chamber 39 is vented at 55 and has its input of material governed automatically between the limits 53 and 54. The material may be discharged from pipe 46 into a side hopper, the pipe being bent and cut away underneath to allow the material better to fall into the hopper and the hopper leading to an air conveyer. Fig. 7. The material raised up pipe 82 as before by fluidising air at 79 and elevating air at 84 passes into chamber 86 where it is maintained at a constant level, the excess passing through outlet 93 back to the lower chamber 77 and the contents fed out by screw 90 through pipe 92 at uniform rate.
