Abstract
834,052. Pneumatic conveyers. SCHMITT, E. C. May 30, 1958 [May 31, 1957], No. 17434/57. Class 78 (1). Apparatus for conveying fluidized particulate material, e.g. coal dust, through a pipe 13 from a pressure vessel 8 to a kiln 19 comprises a feed vessel 1 arranged above the vessel 8 and communicating with it by means of a passage controlled by a valve 9, the pressure in the vessel 1 being normally atmospheric, but when the pressure in the vessel 8 falls below a predetermined minimum, the pressure in the vessel 1 is increased to this amount and the valve 9 opened to allow material to pass from the upper vessel to the lower. The vessel 1 contains a conical porous floor 5 and the vessel 8 a porous floor 10, air being supplied to the spaces 6, 11 between these floors and the walls of the vessels by pipes provided with valves 7, 12. The part 15 of the discharge pipe passes into a pipe 17 leading from a blower 18 and ends in a jet 16. Transfer of material from the vessel 1 to the vessel 8 takes place while sufficient material and pressure remains in the vessel 8 to ensure continuous flow.
