Abstract

1,229,486. Pneumatic emptying of containers. AMERICAN COLLOID CO. 23 April, 1968, No. 19043/68. Headings B8A and B8E. A transport container 1 for granular material is provided with a fluidizing floor 3, the arrangement being such that gas is discharged through the floor at a greater volumetric rate in zones distant from the material outlet 20 than in zones closer to the outlet. As shown, Fig. 2, the floor 3 is formed with apertures into which upstanding gas distributers 30 are fitted, the distributers directing the gas downwardly through apertures 33, 34. The plenum chamber beneath the floor 3 is divided into three chambers to which gas is supplied from a pipe 11 through valves 12<SP>1</SP>, 13<SP>1</SP>, 14<SP>1</SP>. In order to produce a gas flow through the floor zone A which is greater than that through the zone B which in turn is greater than that through the zone C, either the valves 12<SP>1</SP>, 13<SP>1</SP>, 14<SP>1</SP> are adjusted appropriately or the gas distributers mounted in the three floor zones are such as to provide the required different gas flow rates. The container may discharge into a static container, Fig. 3 (not shown), or may be charged from a static container having a similar fluidizing base, Fig. 4 (not shown). In a modification, Fig. 7 (not shown), the fluidizing means consists of hollow elongated chambers provided in their upper surfaces with gas distributers 30 and adapted to be placed on the floor of a container and connected to a source of compressed gas.
