Abstract

1458509 Stands W R STOKES 2 April 1974 [4 April 1973] 16051/73 Heading A4H An adjustable stand for a typewriter, cardiograph machine, &c., comprises opposed spaced base components 10 and horizontal table portions 12 rigidly secured to the ends of legs 11, the components 10 and portions 12 being connected by lower and upper horizontal telescopically adjustable tubular components 13, 14, and manually operable screw means 15, 18, 36, 37 for locking the telescopic components in the desired positions of adjustment. The outer edge of each table portion 12 has a flange 22 which is gapped at 34 adjacent slots 35 in said portion 12 so as to support a table extension, a suspended filing cabinet, chest of drawers, &c. Each manually operable screw means comprises a screw 36 extending into the inner tube 19 or 16 and threaded into a plastics wedge piece 37 so that when a knob 18 or 15 of the screw is turned (without axial movement of the screw) the wedge piece 37 is drawn hard on the adjacent oblique end 39 of the inner tube and sides up said end and jams on to the inside of the outer tube 20 or 17.
