Winding and paying-out apparatus on motor vehicles.-In a tractor fitted with a winding- drum for use in hauling agricultural implements, the transmission mechanism from the engine to the drum and rear axle includes a slidable shaft d<1> provided with claw clutches d<6> at its ends to engage corresponding clutch parts on alined shafts d, geared by bevel and spur wheels with the drum c and rear axle a<3> respectively. The shaft d<1> is driven from the longitudinally-arranged engine shaft b<2> by a pinion b<4> engaging a non-slidable wheel d<3> feathered on the shaft d<1>. Universal joints b<7>, d<2> are interposed as shown.
