Abstract

[Class 108 (i)], [Also in Groups XXXI and I] In a wheeled unit arranged either to form the rear part of a motor vehicle or tractor or to be horse-drawn and comprising a frame 1 mounted on a pair of wheels 6, as claimed in the parent Specification, a main shaft 8 mounted on the frame is directly geared to the wheel axle 5. In the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 3 the shaft 8 is coupled at 11 to the rear end of the driving-shaft of the vehicle and drives the wheel axle 5 through worm-gearing 12, and a chain wheel 15 through a clutch 14 controlled by a hand lever 18. The chain wheel may drive mowing mechanism or other apparatus. When the unit is horse-drawn the wheels 6 drive the chain wheel 15. In a modification a powertransmitting pulley may be provided on the shaft 8 between the worm and the coupling 11.
