Fast and loose pulleys 31a, 32<a> are arranged to be moved axially with a driven shaft 13 so that a driving-belt 12 may remain in one plane. The belt is restrained by guides 21, 30. The axial movement is imparted to the shaft 13 by turning a sleeve 45 having a helical slot 47 through half a turn. This is done by means of a cord 51, weight 56, and pin and slot 54, 53.
