Abstract
1438590 Gas-blast circuit-breaker FUJI ELECTRIC CO Ltd 10 Dec 1973 [8 Dec 1972] 57200/73 Heading H1N The quenching-gas compression cylinder 7 of a gas-blast circuit-breaker is formed with two portions of different cross-section A and B. Two corresponding pistons 8 and 9 are provided, the smaller 8 being fixed and the larger 9 being movable, but biased by a spring 10. During opening, the movable contact 2 is drawn down taking the cylinder 7 with it, the pressure increase in B being balanced by the spring 10 until the shoulder 12 appraches the piston 9. As the fixed piston 8 enters the chamber A the compressed gas from B is forced into A via ports 11. This arrangement is stated to provide a higher pressure for a given stroke (as illustrated by the curves of Fig. 4, not shown) thus enabling the arc-quenching time to be shortened.
