Abstract

143,382. Leer, B. van. May 9, 1919. Seals.-Relates to screw-cap closures for vessels containing petrol, dye-stuffs, &c., and to devices for sealing the same. To provide for the sealing, a flange 7 is formed on the neck 4 of the vessel, and a segmental flange 8 is formed at the bottom of the screw cap 3. The segments are slotted at 9, 10 for the passage of a sealing-strip. The slots are arranged so that, in every position of adjustment of the cap, there is a through-way for the passage of the sealing-strip. The sealing- strip may be such that the ends can be pressed together and fastened by means of pliers. Fig. 7 shows one form of such strip, and Fig. 9 shows a second form in which protuberances 17, 18 fit one within the other, and, when pressed by pliers, the folds of the seal lie one within the other. The Hauge 8 may be continuous and the flange 7 segmental. Instead of forming the screw cap with diametrically opposite and upwardly projecting lugs by means of which the cap can be unscrewed, it is formed with a central projection 11. The cap provided with such projection can only be opened by using a special tool which fits the projection.
