142,862. Starcke, E. P. Dec. 10, 1918, [Convention date]. Tapping.-A device for drawing off the contents of cans &c. comprises a spout in the form of a sliding cylinder 9 adapted to be housed inside the can &c. when closed. A liquid-tight joint is made around the periphery of the spout by a packing-ring 4 secured in the mouth of the neck 2 between a shell 13 crimped on to the neck and a flange 3. When the closing cap is on, the lower end of the spout is held against a packing- disk 7 in the bottom of a fixed cylinder 5 depending from the rim 3. Projections 10 of the sliding cylinder engage in slots 8 of the fixed cylinder, these slots serving to allow passage of the liquid contents into the spout. The mouth of the spout is closed by a pivoted valve 12, which is secured against tampering by a sealing-strip.
