Abstract
1431093 Gas discharge display panels FUJITSU Ltd 11 April 1973 [18 April 1972 (3)] 17357/73 Heading H1D The dielectric layer 14 covering the electrodes 6, 7, 8, 9 of a charge-storage type gas discharge display panel is covered or interrupted by suppression layers 17 which decrease the electric field penetrating the discharge space. The gaps between strip films 17 of Au, Pt or Ag form channels along which a surface discharge is stepped by connecting the electrodes 6, 7, 8, 9 to a 3-phase supply. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 7, not shown) the strips 17 are made of resistive material, e.g. an oxide of Sn, Ti, In or TaN 2 , to decrease the load capacitance. In either of these embodiments the strips 17 may be covered with a further dielectric layer of Al 2 O 3 , SiO 2 or CeO 2 (Fig. 11, not shown). In a further alternative embodiment (Fig. 8, not shown) the strips 17 consist of dielectric material having a higher dielectric constant than the layer 14, e.g. the strips 17 may be of BaTiO 3 and the layer 14 of high lead content glass.
