142,920. Williams, G., and British Chuck & Piston Ring Co. Feb. 12, 1919. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Piston packing.-A groove b is made in the working face of a piston or like ring, and the bottom of the groove is hammered to an extent greatest near the split ends e. The surface of the metal actually in contact with the cylinder is not therefore directly stressed by the hammering operation, so that trueing-up the working face does not affect the elastic fit in the cylinder.
