Abstract
1428048 Sealing anodized aluminium LOCKHEED AIRCRAFT CORP 30 Aug 1973 [5 Sept 1972] 40908/73 Heading C7B An anodized Al oxide coating is sealed by contacting it (e.g. by dipping or spraying) with first a solution containing chromate and tungstate ions, e.g. 0.1 to 5% CrO 3 and 0.5 to 10% WO 4 salt, to partially seal the coating, then a further solution containing 0.1 to 10% of a salt of Ni or Co and a weak acid, such as boric, citric, formic or acetic acid e.g. Ni acetate, to render the coating stain resistant. The further solution may contain boric, citric, formic or acetic acid, or ammonium or alkali metal salt of such acid, as buffer. Either or both solutions may contain one or more anionic, cationic or nonionic wetting agents and have a pH of 4.5 to 8. The chromate and tungstate may be present as K, Na, Li or NH 4 salts.
