Abstract

1427975 Non-woven fabrics BUNZL & BIACH AG 14 March 1973 [14 March 1972] 12200/73 Heading D1R A fleece consisting of polyolefinic fibres is consolidated by partially dissolving or swelling the fibres by impregnation with a solvent or swelling agent which is substantially saturated with a polyolefinic or polyvinylic binder. Preferably the fleece comprises staple fibres or spun bonded continuous filaments of polypropylene or polyethylene, the solvent is trichloroethylene or an aromatic hydrocarbon, the binder is polypropylene, high pressure polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, polyvinylacetate or polyisobutylene rubber and the solution also contains a plasticiser, lampblock, graphite and/or phenylamine (as antioxidant). The fleece may be needled before the application of solvent. In the embodiments solutions of 10 to 35% binder were applied at a temperature of 43- 65‹C, the fleece squeezed out and dried at up to 100‹C. Hot calendering may be used to give an impermeable sheet.
