Abstract

1420661 Latches WILMOT-BREEDEN LTD 22 March 1974 [6 Jan 1973] 909/73 Heading E2A In a latch assembly wherein a tapered member of one of the latching-together parts enters and wedges between the guides of the other of the parts, a latch assembly 10 or a keeper assembly 15 constituting one of the parts comprises two spaced guides 20 in the form of parallel cylindrical members extending transversely of the wedging direction to engage the respective wedge sides of the tapering member, one or both of the cylindrical members providing a resiliently-yielding wedge-engaging face for lateral restraint of the tapering member in the latched condition. As shown, the guides 20 engageable by the inclined sides 12 of the latch member 10 comprise an inner sleeve 23 of rubber bonded to a steel shell 22 and mounted on pins 24; the members 20 may have an inner steel shell on the pins. A nylon block 28 mounted on the keeper housing 26, carries a torsion spring 25 the offsett, generally U-shaped portion 32 of which is engageable with the leading end of the latch housing 10 to provide a throw-out action on latch release.
