Abstract

141,397. Lee, A. J. F. Oct. 17, 1918. Ballasting.-Submarine vessels are constructed with a ballast chamber B open to the sea at the bottom and closed at the too so that an air cushion is formed by the incoming water. A weight C partly immersed in the water is suspended by four cords E1, E2, which are adjustable to enable the amount of immersion of'the whole or either end of the weight to be altered. Such alteration provides a means of adjusting the reserve buoyancy and of trimming the vessel fore and aft as well as athwartships. The same principle is stated to be applicable to the variation of the depth of immersion of the vessel described in Specification 104,700.
