Abstract

1413005 Fuel injection pumps STANADYNE Inc 19 April 1973 [24 April 1972] 19091/73 Heading F1A The rotor 14 of a rotary distributor fuel injection pump is driven by a shaft 46 axially urged by a spring 80 so that a tang 44 on the shaft engages a slot 42 in the rotor. The spring 80 acts between a retainer ring 82 and a ball bearing 72, 74 fixed to the shaft 46 and slidably received in a recess 76 in the pump housing 10. Thus, in operation of the pump, the spring 80 prevents oscillation of the shaft 46 thereby (a) reducing wear between the surfaces of the slot 42 and tang 44 and (b) inhibiting pressure pulsations in a cavity 66. Pressure pulsations in the cavity 66 are undesirable because they affect operation of centrifugal weights 70 controlling an inlet metering valve 22 and also the quantity delivered by the pumping pistons 36, since the radial outer ends of the latter are pressurized by fluid in the cavity 66. A rotary vane pump 18 supplies fuel to the inlet of the valve 22 via a passage 20.
