1,200,180. Hydraulic reciprocating pumps; centrifugal and axial-flow pumps. DOWTY TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENTS Ltd. Dec.4, 1967 [Dec.14, 1966], No.56097/66. Headings F1A and F1C. A swash-plate pump has hydro kinetic pumping means 27 in or on the rotary cylinder block 3, the pumping means acting to draw liquid from pump inlet 15 over swash-plate 16, to provide cooling and lubrication of the swash-plate, and to deliver the liquid to the valve plate inlet port 12 of the pump. As shown, the hydro kinetic pumping means comprises passages 27 located between the cylinders 5 in the cylinder block, the passages being shaped, e.g. skewed, to provide centrifugal and/or axial flow pumping. A chamber 28, surrounding the cylinder block on the delivery side of passages 27, has vanes 39 to prevent rotational flow of the pumped liquid. Alternatively, the cylinder block may have external vanes to provide the pumping action. As shown, the block 3 is supported by a bearing 4; and rotated by a shaft 29 supported by a sleeve 32 and bearings 33, 34. Alternatively, the block may be solely supported by a shaft extending through the block. Liquid leaking past the inner periphery of valve plate 11 lubricates bearings 33, 34 and is directed back to the pump inlet 12 by passage 37. Screws 25, 26 limit the adjusting movement of the swash-plate.
