Abstract

1407306 Thermal cut-out AMANA REFRIGERATION Inc 2 April 1973 [3 April 1972] 15738/73 Heading H1N [Also in Divisions F2 H2 and H5] A thermal cut-out for use in a safetyinterlock power supply system, e.g. for a microwave oven (see Divisions F2, H2, H3-H5) comprises conductive leads 156, 162 at opposite ends of a conductive casing 160. Metal cup 172 is maintained in contact with lead 156 by a spring 168 and is biased away from the lead by spring 174 Non-conducting mass 164 disintegrates at a predetermined temperature to permit spring 174 to push metal cup 172 away from lead 172, breaking contact. The cut-out is heated by resistor 180 wound about the cut-out on an insulating sleeve 178. Compound 158 seals lead 156 to the casing and ceramic bushing 176, surrounding lead 156, resists the pressure of spring 168.
