A circuit for producing a time delay in an automatic gas or oil firing appliance comprises a thermal relay 1-3 supplied through the normally closed contact 4 of an electromagnetic relay 5. When contact 8 changes over, the relay 5 is energized opening contacts 4 and closing contacts 12, and self-holding contacts 14. When relay 1-3 cools contact 8 remakes on contact 9 hence an output is supplied to a conductor 11. As the cooling time of the relay 1-3 is long relative to the heating time, and the cooling time is stated to increase with more rapid heating, supply voltage fluctuations do not substantially affect the delay time.
