Abstract

1405718 Boots &c P ALBALADEJO 3 April 1973 [24 April 1972] 15888/73 Heading A3B A sports shoe has a sole 1 provided with projections such as studs 5 or spikes, at least some of which are longitudinally adjustable. In a first embodiment (Figs. 2, 3) a stud 5 has a threaded shank 11 which passes through a hole in a disc 6 and which is screwed into a boss 10. The boss 10 is formed integrally on a base plate 7 which can rotate about pivot 8, the boss 10 moving along an arcuate slot 12 in the sole 1. The adjacent faces of the sole 1 and disc 6 are provided with complementary ridges 14, 15 so that, after the boss has been moved to a selected position, screwing the shank 11 into the boss 10 locks the stud in position. The disc 6 is large enough to cover the slot 12 in any position of the stud. In a second embodiment (Fig. 4) the studs 5, 1 and 5, 2 are screwed into bosses 19, 1 and 19, 2 formed on arms 16, 1 and 16, 2 which can move about pivot 17. In a third embodiment (Fig. 6) the stud 5 can be moved along a rectilinear longitudinal slot 22 and is screwed into a boss 23 on a base plate 24. The base 24 is locked in position by ridges 26 on the base 24 engaging ridges 27 formed on the sole. In a modification (not shown) the disc 6 and outer face of the sole 1 may also be formed with cooperating ridges, or the disc 6 may be formed with spikes which dig into the outer face of the sole. In all of the above embodiment the stud may be formed with a threaded boss and the base plate formed with a threaded shank. In a fourth embodiment (not shown) the sole is provided with inserts, each of which has a series of closely spaced threaded holes, the position of each stud being adjusted by selecting the appropriate hole.
