Abstract

1,017,787. Boots &c. E. BRUTTING. Dec. 14, 1964 [Dec. 20, 1963], No. 50849/64. Heading A3B. A spike 5, stud or the like is secured to the sole of a sports shoe e.g. a track shoe by being inserted into a recess 10 in the sole where it engages an anchoring plate 3 which extends through the recess 10 and is locked to the anchoring plate 3 by relative movement between the spike 5 and the anchor plate 3 in a direction parallel to the tread surface. In a first embodiment (Figs. 1, 2) the anchor plate 3 is slidable in a slot 2 in the sole 1 and is provided with keyhole apertures 4. To secure the spike 5 the circular part of the keyhole 4 is aligned with the recess 10 and the spike 5 is inserted. The anchor plate 3 is then moved in the slot 2 so that the narrow part of the keyhole 4 engages an annular groove 7 in the spike 5. The anchor plate 3 is held in this position by resilient projections 8 on the sole 1. In a second embodiment (Fig. 6) the anchor plate 3 is embedded in the sole and the recess 10 is large enough to permit the spike 5 to be inserted into the circular part of the keyhole 4 and moved to the narrow part of the keyhole where the groove 7 is engaged by the anchor plate. A grub screw 11 is then inserted in the circular part of the keyhole to prevent further movement of the spike 5. In both embodiments the sole may be reinforced by a plate 6 which is embedded in the sole above the spike 5.
