Abstract

1,243,257. Boots, &c. E. T. WRIGHT & CO. Inc. 29 Oct., 1968 [9 May, 1968], No. 51244/68. Heading A3B. A stud plate 18 (Fig. 3) for incorporation in a shoe bottom, e.g. a golf shoe, consists of a flat platform 18a having a plurality of bosses 18b on one side and a plurality of studs 16 with their heads 24 embedded in the bosses 18b. Each stud 16 (Fig. 6) consists of a head 24, cylindrical part 22 and a tapered tip 30 of soft metal, e.g. soft steel, and an insert 26a of hard metal, e.g. a tungsten alloy. The head 24 of the stud 16 is provided with radial shoulders (not shown), e.g. notches or ribs, which prevent rotation of the stud. The stud plate may be incorporated in a shoe between the insole and outsole in the position normally occupied by the bottom filler, the studs 16 projecting through holes in the outsole. In a flat lasted shoe (Fig. 17) the stud plate 18 is accommodated in a recess in the outsole. A stud plate may also be provided at the heel of the shoe in a similar manner.
