Abstract

1405596 Cartons UNILEVER Ltd 15 Dec 1972 [17 Dec 1971] 58626/71 Heading B8P A carton of rectangular cross-section has at one or both ends inner and outer flaps 10, 1 connected to primary body panels 3 and 4 and having areas substantially equal to the end of the carton, and flaps 13, 14 connected to the other body panels 5, 6 and extending over only part of the end, with the flaps 10, 11 being deformed in at least part of the remainder of the end so that the deformed areas 15, 16 of the flaps 10, 11 contact each other when the flaps 13, 14 are sandwiched between the flaps 10, 11. The side edges of the flaps 13, 14 may be cut away as shown to receive the deformed areas 15, 16 which may also extend between the opposing edges of the flaps 13, 14 if the edges are spaced apart. There may be glue lines on the inner surface of the outer flap 11 and on the outer surface of the inner flap 10 along the free edges thereof. The glue lines also extend along the folded edge of the inner flap to overlie slightly the deformed area 15, the gaps A between the deformed area and the edges of flaps 13, 14 being caulked with glue. The deformed areas are formed by embossing each flap during the blank cutting and creasing operation to a depth of 50-80% of the flap thickness.
