Abstract

1,240,549. Can carriers. METAL BOX COLtd. 23 Sept., 1969 [8 Nov., 1968], No. 53111/68 Heading B8C. A can carrier comprises an open-ended cardboard sleeve, formed from a unitary blank (Fig. 1), wherein the top 3 and portions of the sides adjoining the top are formed from two overlying thicknesses of the blank and a handle 15 is formed by slits 16 which extend through and across the top 3 and by slits 17 which extend into and through the top adjoining side portions terminating at hinges 18. Two openings 19 extend through the top 3 to facilitate raising of the handle 15 out of the plane of the top 3. Alternatively such an opening or openings may be included in the handle 15 for the same purpose. The overlying top adjoining portions of the sides may be adhesively secured to one another or alternatively, one overlying top adjoining wide portion may be provided with flaps (25, Fig. 5) inturned into the sleeve by co-operation with cans (20, Fig. 3) inserted into the sleeve. The cans (20) are retained in the sleeve by semi-circular flaps (21, Fig. 3) and 22 extending from opposite edges of the top 3 and bottom 4 and infolded into the sleeve to underlie the top 3 and to overlie the bottom 4 respectfully. A single thickness of the side 7 is provided with co-operating slits 24 which form a tear strip.
