Abstract

1,084,407. Cartons. BROWN CO. July 26, 1966 [Sept. 9, 1965], No. 33610/66. Heading B8P. A carton blank comprises base 1, front 2, back 3, end flaps 5, 6, 7, cover 4, cover end flaps 9, a cover front panel 13 to which is attached a detachable portion 17 arranged to be stuck to the front 2; front panel 13 not being as deep as cover end panels 9, but having webs 22 increasing the depth at the corners, which with flaps 18 in the assembled carton help maintain the cover closed once severance lines 14 have been severed. End flaps 7 have the bottom outer corner relieved, as at 19, to increased the glued area 24 on the outer flap 6 contacting the inner flap 5. Recesses 20 in end flaps 7 are to give more efficient use of material when cutting out blanks. To facilitate assembly of the carton, tapers. 50 on flap 7, 51 and 52 on. flap, 6, are: provided, also the length of front panel end flap 18 is greater than the width of flap 9. Carton assembly is by first forming a tube attaching portion 17. to the front 2, then completing one end before filling, and the other afterwards. An alternative means of initial attachment, Figs. 8 to 10 (not shown), comprises a detachable portion 17 joined to the cover front .panel 13 by a single severance line 14, the portion 1.7 being glued to the carton front 2 by a-series of small areas (30), which tear away small areas (32) of the surface layers of front.2.when portion. 17is removed.
