Abstract

952,221. Cartons; wrapping. FOILS PACKAGING CORPORATION. March 23, 1961 [April 14, 1960], No. 10672/61. Headings B8C and B8P. A carton for ice cream &c., comprises a body blank 1 (Fig. 1) folded and sealed to form a tube and having one end at least closed by a blank 2 (Fig. 2) which is fitted into the tube with its flanges 3-6 facing outwardly, each such closed end having flaps 34 and tabs 38 formed by cuts in the blank 1, the tabs 38 being folded in to overlie, and sealed to, the flanges 3-6 where these meet at the corners of the carton (Fig. 7) and the flaps 34 then being folded in to overlie the flanges 3-6 and the tabs 38 and being sealed to both. One panel 51 of the body is perforated to provide an opening, tabs 61a, 61b being provided to facilitate tearing; the lid so formed may be in two parts. The blanks are cut from a laminated sheet comprising a layer of plastics material on each side of a paperboard core. One side may also have a metal foil layer beneath the plastics to act as a heat sink during heat sealing. The carton may alternatively be assembled using adhesives. The carton may be triangular, square, or hexagonal.
